 The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary was reintroduced into Uganda in 2005 by a government organization called Rhino Fund Uganda. Ziwa is Uganda’s only place where travelers can track rhinos on foot; rhino tracking is really an exciting tourism activity as you watch both the white and black rhinos.

 

 Ziwa Rhino sanctuary has approximately 78 well-trained, skilled rangers working hand in hand with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to ensure that the rhinos and visitors are protected and safe. Ziwa Rhino started with approximately six rhinos, and currently the number has increased to about 19 animals. Apart from African black and white rhinos, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary harbors many bird species, reptiles, hippos, antelopes, Nile crocodiles, and monkeys.

 

 Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is an awesomely unique tourism activity that grants visitors a chance to see both black and white rhinos on foot at the same place. Rhino tracking involves watching rhinos at a safer distance under the guidance of a skilled ranger guide. You can also take closer pictures with them as you observe these endangered rhinos feeding in their natural habitat. The Only Place to See White Rhinos in Uganda

Shoebill Trek & Canoe Ride

The rare shoebill stork is one of the most sought-after birds to be spotted in some specific places in Uganda. And Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is one of the few places that you are guaranteed to view them. the record number of sighted the rare shoebills were 11 in one trip! Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is very fortunate to have the fantastic prehistoric-looking birds nesting within their swamps at Ziwa. The shoebill adventure is one of the early birds. Get ready to set off on the shoebill trek as early as 6am. Where you will board the canoe ride through the swamp at this time that gives tourists the best opportunity to spot the shoebill.
